Media Week - Auto Trader's new app reads car number plates
LONDON - Auto Trader, the car brand owned by Trader Media Group, has released an iPhone app that uses image recognition technology to read car number plates.
Auto Trader: unveiled new car search iPhone app The new app enables users to search for information on vehicles designed to help consumers before making a new purchase, such as make and model records and performance figures.
The app, created by Sapient Nitro, also allows users to search for information on similar cars and dealers in the area with access to the Auto Trader listings.
If a user spots a car that he/she might want to purchase, the app can help find the nearest sales point to buy the model.
The iPhone app's real-time digital information is likely to attract petrol heads and car enthusiasts too. ??The software also uses GPS to help users to find their way to the nearest showroom.
Nick Gee, director of mobile at Auto Trader said: "We believe users will find the link between ‘real world’ and ‘digital world’ very compelling, providing a clear differentiator for mobile compared to other media."
